Ragnar Kjartansson: The Story Behind the Exhibition

Born into a family of performers, Icelandic artist Ragnar Kjartansson uses music and performance in video works to explore human emotion. Showcasing eight video and film projects, this exhibition blends influences from 1970s video art to opera, ballet, and music videos. Through repetition and duration, his art uncovers rehearsed truths and the joy of collaboration. Adopting personae from crooner to troubadour, Kjartansson both celebrates and satirises the romanticised artist.
